What you need before you start
To run the check, you need one of the following ways to log in to the National Revenue Agency (НАП) portal. Don’t worry if you don’t have a QES: there is a free alternative.
Choose a way to log in to the portal
Choose ONE of the options below
PIC from НАП (Personal Identification Code, ПИК)
Free, collected from a НАП office with your ID card. The easiest option
QES (Qualified Electronic Signature, КЕП)
Paid, issued by B-Trust, Evrotrust and others
PIC from the National Social Security Institute (НОИ) for e-authentication
An alternative if you already have a PIC from НОИ
The easiest option is a PIC from НАП. You get it free of charge from any НАП office on presenting your ID card. It takes about 10 minutes.
Step by step: checking in the НАП portal
Once you have a PIC, a QES or another way to log in, follow these steps:
How to run the check

Important: the limit for old contracts
Limit of the system
The electronic system shows only contracts in force after 2 January 2003. That is the date from which employers are required to register contracts with НАП.
For work experience before that date, the only supporting document is your paper employment record book (трудова книжка). Keep it until you retire!
If you can’t find your contract
If your contract does not appear in the report, don’t panic. There are a few possible reasons and steps you can take.
What to do
Wait a few days
There may be a technical delay in registration with НАП
Contact your employer
Ask for a copy of the registered employment contract
Check your documents
Make sure you have a signed written contract with the company stamp
Contact НАП or the Labour Inspectorate
Keep your evidence
If you suspect that your employer has not registered your contract, keep all your payslips, bank statements showing transfers and any other documents. They can serve as evidence in an inspection.
Don’t pay for a free service!
There are websites online that offer an employment contract check for a fee. That is a completely unnecessary expense.

Warning: paid services
Some websites charge 50-100 BGN for a report that НАП provides completely free of charge. Don’t be misled by adverts for quick checks for a fee.
With a PIC from НАП the check takes 5 minutes and costs nothing. The PIC is also free of charge from a НАП office.
The new system from 2025
Since June 2025 a new system has been operating in Bulgaria: the Single Electronic Employment Record (ЕЕТЗ). It is gradually replacing the paper employment record books.
What you need to know about the ЕЕТЗ
The move to fully electronic record keeping
The electronic record replaces the paper employment record book
By 1 June 2026 employers finish with the paper books
The data is stored centrally at НАП
It is available 24/7 online through the portal
