How to check your sick pay from NOI in Bulgaria (2026)
How to check online whether NOI has paid your sick leave benefit, step by step: who pays what, when to expect the money and what to do if it is late.
You have taken sick leave, you are resting at home and wondering: has the money arrived? Did your sick note reach the National Social Security Institute (НОИ)? Here is how to check everything online in five minutes.

Steps to check with НОИ through ЕПЕУ
Since 1 January 2026 all the information services of НОИ have been integrated into the single ЕПЕУ portal. All you need is a ПИК or a КЕП.
How to check the payment of your sick leave in ЕПЕУ
The Unified Portal for Electronic Services of НОИ. It opens directly in the catalogue of services.
Log in with a ПИК or a КЕП
The portal redirects you to the state e-authentication system. A НОИ ПИК, a НАП ПИК and all types of КЕП are valid.
Open the Electronic Insurance File (Електронно осигурително досие)
This is the section with your personal insurance data
Choose the Electronic Social Security File for insured and self-insured persons (Електронно социалноосигурително досие за осигурени и самоосигуряващи се лица)
Do not skip this level. There is also a branch for insurers (employers), which is easy to open by mistake.
Open Benefits for sickness, reassignment to lighter work and maternity (Обезщетения при болест, трудоустрояване и майчинство)

Who pays your sick leave, and how much?
Sick leave is not paid entirely by НОИ. It is important to know who pays for which days and what percentage you receive.
Who pays what during sick leave
1st and 2nd working day
Paid by the employer from its own funds
70% of gross pay
From the 3rd working day onwards
Paid by НОИ, for general illness or quarantine
80% of insurable income
Work accident or occupational disease(optional)
Paid by НОИ, also from the 3rd working day. Here too the first two days are at the employer's expense.
90% of insurable income

80% and 90% are calculated on the average insurable income for the 18 calendar months before the month in which the incapacity for work began. For the first two days the employer uses a different base: the gross pay for the month in which you fell ill.

„Осигурителят изплаща на осигуреното лице за първите два работни дни от временната неработоспособност 70 на сто от среднодневното брутно възнаграждение за месеца, в който е настъпила временната неработоспособност, но не по-малко от 70 на сто от среднодневното уговорено възнаграждение.“
For general illness there is also a ceiling: the daily benefit cannot exceed the average daily net pay for the period from which it is calculated (Art. 41(1), second sentence КСО).

When exactly will you get the money?
Many people think НОИ pays straight after the sick leave. In fact the НОИ deadline runs from the moment the data is submitted, and the employer plays a key role in the process.
within 10 working days
НОИ pays the benefit within 10 working days of receiving the data from the sick note and the certificate from the employer
The deadline runs from submission to НОИ, not from the end of the sick leave. In practice: if the employer submits the documents by the 10th of the following month, the money usually arrives by the end of that same month. For sick leave lasting several months, the following months are paid within 5 working days.

❓Can I check the sick leave benefits paid using only my ЕГН?

Have you not received the money for your sick leave? Do this
If the benefit has not arrived, follow these steps before you panic. In most cases the reason is the submission deadline, not a refusal.
What to check when payment is delayed
Ask your employer whether it has submitted the certificate to НОИ*
Its deadline is the 10th of the month following the month in which you handed over the documents. Until it submits, НОИ has nothing to pay.
Wait 10 working days from the moment the data reaches НОИ
The deadline does not run from the end of the sick leave. That is why you first need to find out when the employer submitted the documents.
Check that your bank account at НОИ is up to date
The benefit is transferred to the personal payment account you have declared. If you change banks, submit a new declaration.

Choose the right year and month

If the amount is wrong, file a written complaint under Art. 117(1), item 1 КСО
The complaint goes to the head of the relevant territorial office of НОИ, who rules with a reasoned decision within one month.
* Mandatory documents
If your problem is a different one, namely that the sick note itself does not appear in your file, the cause is usually with the doctor who issued or submitted it. This is covered separately in checking a sick note with НОИ.
