Check your insurance record online with your ЕГН at НОИ, step by step: what you need, what the report shows, and why service from before 2000 is missing.
Are you preparing for retirement or a new job, or do you simply want to be sure that your employer is paying your contributions? In a few minutes you can check your record by personal identification number (ЕГН) online, without digging through yellowed employment record books. Here is how.
❓How do I check my employment record with my ЕГН at НОИ?
Employment service or insurance record: they are not the same thing
You are looking for a report on your “employment service” (трудов стаж), but the НОИ portal shows your insurance record (осигурителен стаж). This is not a mistake. It is the insurance record that counts towards a pension, so it is the one that matters for you.
The two concepts are governed by different laws and measure different things. Here is which is which.

Do not be put off by the word “insurance”
Where to check what: НОИ, НАП and the electronic employment record
Your record and your employment contracts live in two different places. The insurance record is at НОИ, while the employment contracts themselves are at the National Revenue Agency (НАП). Here is a short map of what to look for where.

For your record for a pension, go to НОИ. For employment contracts, go to НАП.
From 1 June 2025 НАП maintains the Unified Electronic Employment Record (Единен електронен трудов запис, ЕЕТЗ) as part of the Employment Register (Регистър на заетостта). This is an official certifying document under Art. 347а of the Labour Code (КТ), which replaces the paper employment record book for new service. You can access it through portal.nra.bg with a ПИК or КЕП. Keep your old paper employment record book, because it certifies your service up to 31 May 2025. A НОИ ПИК is not the same as a НАП ПИК
What you need for the check
There is no need to visit an office or queue. You need only two things: your ЕГН and a valid way of authenticating electronically.

Together the two give you access to the full report

НОИ ПИК or a qualified electronic signature (КЕП)
The ПИК is issued free of charge by НОИ; a КЕП is paid for and is issued by a trust service provider
A НОИ ПИК is issued free of charge. You submit an application online through the “My НОИ” section of the portal, or you collect it at a territorial office of НОИ, bringing your ID card. The code is ready immediately and is valid for all НОИ electronic services.
An ЕГН alone is not enough

Choose to log in with a ПИК or КЕП
Enter your ЕГН and НОИ ПИК, or log in with an electronic signature
Open the report on insurance record and income

You see the periods, the employers and the type of insurance
Download or save the report
If needed, save it as a file for your pension, bank or employer

If you see an empty period, it is not always a mistake. It may be time without an employment contract, unpaid leave, or a period for which the employer has not yet submitted data. Below we explain how to check and correct it.
What you do NOT see: service from before the electronic register
The most common surprise is that old service is missing from the online report. This is normal and has a clear explanation.
Online data starts in 2000
If part of your record is from before these years, do not be alarmed that it is “missing”. It has not disappeared, it is simply not in the electronic register. Here is what to collect to prove it.

Certificate УП-3 for insurance record
Issued by the former employer or by the archive that keeps its documents
Certificate УП-2 for insured income
Needed for the amount of the pension, issued by the same source

Your record feeds your pension, so it is a good idea to also check your pension forecast by ЕГН, once you have seen your record.

What is the difference between employment service and insurance record?
Employment service (трудов стаж) is the time you have worked under an employment relationship (Art. 351 КТ). Insurance record (осигурителен стаж) is the periods for which contributions have been paid or are due (Art. 9 КСО). It is the insurance record that counts towards a pension, and it is what you see in the НОИ report.
Can I check my record with just an ЕГН, without a ПИК?
No. A full record report requires an ЕГН together with a НОИ ПИК or a КЕП. With an ЕГН alone you cannot see your personal insurance data, because the portal requires a secure access code.
How do I get a НОИ ПИК?
A НОИ ПИК is issued free of charge. You request it online through “My НОИ” or collect it at a territorial office of НОИ with your ID card. The code is ready immediately.
Why is service from before 2000 missing?
The НОИ electronic register contains reliable data for the periods after 31 December 1999. Older service is not online and is proved with certificates УП-3 and УП-2 or with a paper employment record book. For self-insured people the online data is reliable after 1 January 2007.
What should I do about a missing period or a mistake?
Compare the report with your employment record book, ask the employer to correct the data, get УП-3 and УП-2 from a former employer, and submit a request for correction to the territorial office (ТП) of НОИ with the evidence attached.
Are the НОИ ПИК and the НАП ПИК the same?
